Our family recently took our son Diego to the 2023 Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa. It was eye opening to see the talent there and as a family trip we had a blast! So Much fun! Our son ended up going 0-2 but returned to Texas with even more determination to do well at tournaments on the National level throughout the rest of the year.
We take to the skies on Thursday early morning before the tournament so we can get to Iowa by mid afternoon.
A quick layover and some coffee and we are excited to get back on the plane for Des Moines, Iowa.
When we arrived at the hotel Diego was over by .8 lbs for the 138 weight bracket so he exercised a bit and checked his weight again before heading to the venue for weigh ins.
I believe there were 3500 participants and it was sold out.
This was the first national and even the first wrestling tournament that we have ever traveled out of state for. Diego was very excited to get his lanyard.
